Walking Tours of Civil War Boston

Guidebook

A full color guidebook detailing Boston’s central role in the greatest conflict in American history. The booklet covers four historical walks—with sites organized by color and number—and features numerous contemporary photographs and historical documents. A map of the four walks is included in the centerfold for ease of use on the trail. Working closely with author Barbara Berenson, we developed a system of navigation that offered multiple levels of information within a clear organizational structure. Each walk is color-coded with numbers that signify each stop along the way. The casual user could simply walk following the centerfold map, flipping to see the names of places and choosing to read more later. A more thorough reader might stop to consider the supplied information while visiting each site, to better understand the significance. Certain sites feature related locations (as signified by a colored dot with a number inside) at the end of the description. Visitors could choose to tailor their own walk following these related dots, if desired. Published by the Freedom Trail Foundation.
